Joseph A. Magnus: Cigar Blend - Batch 13

Was surprised to find a backup Batch 13 @districtmagnus Cigar Blend during my recent visit to @gordonsdtx to pick up @thewhiskyguys new @fourrosesbourbon Barrel Strength Single Barrel (review coming later this week), but it gave me a reason to crack it for this week’s #tastingtuesday! Read below for tasting notes! ⤵️ 🥃🍾

👃: Cherry, Vanilla, Orange Bitters, Caramel, Baking Spice, Armagnac, Leather, Tobacco, Oak

👅: Sherry, Armagnac, Cinnamon, Musty Corn, Fig, Red Apple, Citrus, Lots of Oak

🏁: Long, Allspice, Leather, Tobacco, Oaky Bitterness

This might be one of the most complex pours I’ve had the pleasure of trying. There are so many layers to this thing and I can only imagine how this will open up over time.

I will say that for all its complexity, I do wish a bit more of the very prevalent sweetness on the nose carried over onto the palate. That would have helped mellow the extremely prominent oaky notes. The Armagnac influence is definitely noticeable and adds a nice unique layer to this bourbon I’ve never experience before.

This is one incredible #dram. 👍 It’s not going to be the first bottle I reach for, but as a nightcap with or without a #cigar, it’ll do just fine!
